Invitation Considerations

Be sure that the wording of your dinner invitation reflects the mood of your event. The invitation should give guests an idea of what they should expect for the night. No matter what mood or theme-setting wording you choose, always include the basic components such as:

  • Who is hosting the party
  • The occasion or theme
  • Date
  • Time
  • Location
  • RSVP information
  • Any other requirements such as the dress code, if guests are required to bring a dish, if it is going to be a cash bar, etc.

Sending the Invitations

The invitation should go out early enough to give your guests time to respond and make plans. Two weeks in advance is usually enough time for a casual invitation to be sent. For a formal dinner party, the invitation should be sent 4 to 6 weeks in advance.
