  • 1½ ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ½ ounce orange liqueur
  • ¼ ounce agave
  • Ice
  • 7 ounce bottle Corona
  • Lime wedge for garnish

  3. In a cocktail shaker, add ice, tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave.
  4. Shake to chill.
  5. Strain into prepared glass.
  6. Open Corona bottle, carefully tipping into the glass, inserting the bottle to the bottom of the margarita glass.

Variations and Substitutions

While substitutions are available to the Corona margarita, you won't want to change too much or risk losing the essence of this stacked drink.

  • For a smoother margarita, use añejo instead of silver tequila.
  • As Corona goes well with lime juice, you can increase to a whole two to two and a half ounces of lime juice for a tart Corona margarita.
  • The recipe calls for a seven-ounce Coronita, but you can use a full 12-ounce bottle as well if you're feeling up to it, but sip carefully.
  • Add a splash of lemon juice for extra citrus and to add brightness.
  • If you want yours a bit sweeter, add up to a full ounce of agave, honey, or simple syrup.

Garnishes

The Corona bottle is easily the flashiest part of the Corona margarita, so you don't need to go too wild with the garnishes, but don't let that stop you.

  • If you want your Corona margarita on the sweeter side, skip the salt rim and use sugar instead.
  • Stray from the lime wheel in favor of a bright lemon or orange wheel.
  • Top off your Coronarita with a citrus ribbon or twist, and this can be an orange, lemon, or lime.

About the Corona Margarita

The Corona margarita, or Coronarita, is easily the most modern of margaritas with a snappy combination of beer and tequila. The magic of this cocktail is that it's two drinks in one. As you drink your margarita, the Corona slowly empties itself into the glass, gradually mixing with the margarita and ultimately becoming mostly Corona as you sip the margarita.

To level up the lavishness, you can make your margarita a frozen margarita by adding all of the ingredients except for the Corona into a blender, add a cup and a half of ice, and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into a rimmed, or unrimmed, glass. Then go ahead and add the Corona. But sip slowly; otherwise, you'll end up with brain freeze.

Two for One

The Corona margarita is a great way to enjoy two beverages that do well with lime to shine together. With physics on your side, the Coronarita is a great way to set yourself up in the shade without having to grab another drink too soon. Just don't drink it too fast.
