Chelada - it rolls right off the tongue. Although, literally it rolls right out of the glass and onto to your awaiting tastebuds. And they're in for a treat! But what even is a chelada beer? You'll be pleasantly surprised to learn a chelada recipe has only two-parts, and both are crisp and refreshing. Interested? You should be.
Simple Chelada Recipe With Tajin Rim
As far as easy drinks go, it's hard to beat the basic chelada. And the tajin rim? Consider it optional if it's holding you back from giving this drink a try, but it does set it apart from other beer cocktails, like the shandy or the beergarita.
Ingredients
- Lime wedge and tajin for rim
- 12 ounces Mexican lager
- 1½ ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
- Lime slice for garnish
Instructions
- To prepare rim, rub the rim of the pint glass with the lime wedge.
- With the tajin on a saucer, dip either half or the entire rim of the glass in the tajin to coat.
- In the prepared glass, add Mexican lager and lime juice.
- Garnish with a lime slice.
Chelada With Salt Rim
No tajin, no problem! Grab your table salt, sea salt, or your favorite plain salt from the cabinet, and you're on your way.
Ingredients
- Salt and lime wedge for rim
- 12 ounces Mexican lager
- 2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
- Ice, optional
- Lime wheel for garnish
Instructions
- To prepare rim, rub the rim of the glass with the lime wedge.

- In the prepared glass, add only enough ice to cover the bottom of the glass.
- Add lager and lime juice.
- Garnish with a lime wheel.
Chelada Recipe Without a Rim
No need to explain why you do or don't want a salt rim with your chelada. I'll let you in on a secret: when I make drinks at home, I tend to skip the salt rim if I'm feeling lazy. The secret is to add a pinch of what you'd use on your rim directly into your drink.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces Mexican lager
- 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
- 2 pinches salt or tajin
- Lime wedge for garnish
Instructions
- In a pint or pilsner glass, add Mexican lager and lime juice.
- Sprinkle salt or tajin on top.
- Garnish with a lime wedge.
