There's no hood like plant parenthood. And with that comes the great responsibility of giving your plant that evergreen name. Because, let's face it, like people, your plants are going to grow, wilt, and take on their own dramatic personality when they go just twenty minutes past their usual watering time. Take a moment to chat with your plants to see which of these names fits them better than the perfect pot.

Tips for Naming Your Plants
At the end of day, these are your plants, and if you want to give your plant a simple name like Brenda or Thomas, you sure can. But if you want something a little more unique to you, consider these sources for your plant naming inspiration.
- Start with your favorite TV show or movie. There's no reason you can't name your plant Banana after the barking dog in the opening scene in Juno. You can turn to your favorite animated kids' movies, too.
- You share your favorite podcast with your plants, why not name them after it? Make it quirky like Welcome to Night Vale with a name like "John Peter, you know, the farmer" or keep it simple with a Kevin or Suzy as you're problem-solving along with Hey Riddle Riddle.
- If you also share your musical taste with your plants, or they're just always around to listen to you sing along, put song names, lyrics, or band names to use.
- Grab your favorite book or four off the shelf, and name your plant in honor of the author or the characters. Place names make excellent plant names, too. Belisaere, a city from Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series, makes an excellent name. Likewise, if you have a particularly challenging or tricky fiddle-leaf plant, then a trickster character such as Nix's Mogget makes for a most on-point name.
- There's a belief that if you name your plants after someone or someones you know, and that plant starts to wilt, that you should check on them.
- Sometimes inspiration just doesn't click, so think outside of the box with adjective names, a name that has a hipster twist, or a mythology name.
Giving Your Plant Roommates a Name
Whatever your living situation, a studio apartment in a bustling city, with several roommates in the suburbs, or with your whole dang family - your plant family could use a name. Otherwise, how will it know when you're talking to it?
