Aries: The Love Interest's Protective Sibling

Sure, every holiday movie has its main character, love interest, and whacky community business owner, but you can’t round out the perfect festive film without a protective sibling. The sensitive love interest usually has a sordid back story, and their steady protective sibling sees warding off future heartbreak as their sole mission.

No one’s more prepared to fight for their friends — even risking their close relationships — than a fiery Aries.

Taurus: The Main Character's Childhood Best Friend

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/www/images/slide/359875-850x566-christmas-portrait_2442854809.jpg

When the main character returns home after several years away, their first step is bumping into their childhood best friend while running errands and commenting on how things have hardly changed since they left.

Taurus is rock steady and incredibly loyal, which makes them the perfect sign to embody that supportive best friend energy.

Gemini: The Friend Who Accidentally Started a False Rumor

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/www/images/slide/359876-850x566-christmas-portrait_1503195056.jpg

Holiday movies are just home videos if there’s no tension, and a blabbermouth like Gemini makes for great TV. A social butterfly of sorts, Gemini fills the role of the friend who only catches the end of a conversation and plays the most dangerous game of telephone.

Things work out in the end, but not before Gemini has to do a little damage control.

Cancer: The Lonely Single Parent Love Interest

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/www/images/slide/359877-850x566-christmas-parent_2375792089.jpg

A holiday movie is only as good as its love interest, and the emotionally attuned and loving Cancer makes for the picture-perfect choice. They’re primed to be devoted single parents to the light of their lives and set aside their own needs in favor of their kids.

However, they’re romantic enough to wish for a fairytale connection — and like every holiday movie, we won’t leave them hanging.

Leo: The Person Who's Jealous of the Main Character

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/www/images/slide/351216-850x566-christmas-donation-letter-1623999315.jpg

Jealousy makes holiday movies juicy, and attention-seeking Leo fits the bill for the person who turns green over the unsuspecting main character showing their face back in town.

There are too many reasons for Leo to rear its ugly, whether the main character swooped in to win a contest Leo thought they were a shoo-in for, or they charmed the love interest right out from under Leo’s nose.

Leo wants to be the center of attention by nature — but they’re not the main character of this story, and they don’t like it.

Virgo: The Romantic Partner They Left Behind

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/www/images/slide/352157-850x566-christmas-shopping-1352745153.jpg

The best holiday movies toe the line between harmless flirting and emotional cheating. In our story, the main character has a Virgo partner they leave behind in the big city. Virgo’s analytical sensibility could easily have led them to a job in the city, and their quest for perfection kept them from traveling with their beloved partner.

Unfortunately, staying home was the final nail in their relationship’s coffin, and Virgo will be spending New Year’s alone.

Libra: The Main Character's Childhood Sweetheart

No zodiac sign is better suited to be the childhood sweetheart than Libra. Kind and flirty, connection-driven Libra would still hold the main character in high regard long after their breakup. As a consummate flirt, they knew their romance with the main character was never going to turn into something serious, but they’re happy to joke about it now.

Not many exes can be friends, but Libra somehow makes it work!

Scorpio: The Misunderstood High School Rival

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/www/images/slide/359878-850x566-christmas-portrait_2522429281.jpg

A great holiday film deters from plopping a storybook villain into its tale and instead offers up many different characters to move the plot along. Scorpio keeps to the fringes and holds their emotional cards close to their chest, making them a perfectly misunderstood high school rival.

Over time, the main character discovers that there’s more to Scorpio’s high school behavior than simple animosity, and they grow into friends by the final credits.

Sagittarius: The Quirky Friend Who Gives Great Advice

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/christmas/images/slide/328593-850x567-woman-decorating-home-for-christmas.jpg

Sagittarius is the life (and laughs) of any good holiday classic. They might not be here for a long time, but they’re chock full of good advice. They’re the person the main character calls when things feel like they couldn’t get worse.

Pay close attention to the final holiday showdown in the last 15 minutes because that’s when Sagittarius will make their big in-person cameo.

Capricorn: The Big City Career-Driven Main Character

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/www/images/slide/359879-850x566-christmas-portrait_2518235463.jpg

“Big city girl goes back home and discovers the magic of Christmas…and love” isn’t the plot for hundreds of holiday movies for nothing. We can’t get enough of them, and someone's name has to appear at the top of our call sheet.

In our story, it’s Capricorn. Capricorn is career-driven to a fault and notoriously emotionally distant. They would have avoided home if it stirred up uncomfortable feelings and sought success far away. However, all it takes is the right person to chip away at their ice-covered heart.

Aquarius: The Hometown Hero

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/www/images/slide/359880-850x566-christmas-portrait_2376258059.jpg

The main love interest can’t be perfect, but the hometown hero totally can be. They’re a shoo-in for every community superlative you can think of. They work hard to support the people they call theirs and never consider taking a break.

This intense need to be involved in their community is an Aquarius trait if ever we’ve seen one. And Aquarius knows their way around a flirty gesture — making them the delightful red herring love interest.

Pisces: The Love Interest's Meddling Child

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/www/images/slide/353239-850x567-girl-writing-next-to-christmas-tree-1453145901.jpg

If Cancer is the single-parent love interest, then there has to be a child in our cast, and Pisces is the perfect one. Their emotional volatility sometimes resembles that of a child’s. They can swing from being jealous of the main character stealing their parent’s attention to meddling in their parent’s love life on a dime.

Pisces is the heart of most of their relationships, and they’re the heart of our holiday movie.

That's a Wrap
