Many people are seeking proof of life after death from the scientific community. At some point, every person must face their own mortality and will eventually discover for themselves if there is life after death.
Neurosurgeon's Near-Death Experience Proof of Life After Death
In 2008, neurosurgeon Dr. Eben Alexander had an out-of-body-experience (OBE) in a near-death experience (NDE). This experience convinced him that his consciousness, often referred to as the soul, exists outside of the mind. He also states that he traveled to other dimensions. Dr. Alexander writes, "This world of consciousness beyond the body is the true new frontier, not just of science but of humankind itself, and it is my profound hope that what happened to me will bring the world one step closer to accepting it."
Science Unable to Explain Proof of Life After Death
Dr. Alexander's experience challenged everything he knew as a neurosurgeon. His doctors couldn't explain his experience since his brain was not capable of creating such a vision or delusion. In fact, his doctors told his family should Dr. Alexander survive, he would be left in little more than a vegetative state with a few months' life expectancy.
Dr. Raymond Moody and Near-Death Experiences
Dr. Raymond Moody coined the phrase, near-death experience (NDE) and has written several books on the subject including, Life After Life. Dr Moody also created the Psychomanteum, which is used to contact the spirit world and is designed from the Necromanteion that ancient Greeks used.
Dr. Moody became interested in reincarnation from Ancient Greek philosophy. He states that when he first began his research in 1968 that he was an atheist and skeptic. His interest was in stories from patients and doctors of dying and coming back to life. He coined the phrase near-death experiences (NDEs) for his research. He's investigated thousands of NDEs and after-death experiences and written numerous books about his findings.
Dr. Moody describes his research in the following clip:
Dr. Ian Stevenson and Scientific Proof of Life After Death
The late Dr. Ian Stevenson of the University of Virginia founded the Division of Perceptual Studies in 1967 (renamed in 2004 as Perceptual Studies) to study and research phenomena that current science can't explain. This research led Dr. Stevenson and his team to investigate near-death experiences (NDEs), out-of-body experiences (OBEs), claims of memories of previous lives, deathbed visions, after-death communications, apparitions, and many other unexplained events. In 1987, Dr. Stevenson co-founded the Journal of Scientific Exploration.
Children's Claims of Past Lives
Dr. Stevenson's research mainly focused on children claiming to remember previous lives and followed the claims to find relatives they remembered. His research sought to verify details of their previous lives and understand unexplained emotional attachments to people and places in their previous lives. The child often rejected their parents, wishing to return to their previous family. Birthmarks and phobias were traced back to the ways the child had died in their previous lifetime.
Dr Stevenson's brief presentation of some intriguing cases of past lives:
Dr. Jim Tucker Past Life Research
Dr. Jim Tucker is the current Director of the Division of Perceptual Studies. He continues and expands Dr. Stevenson's work. This research covers over 50 years of more than 2,500 cases worldwide. The children with past life recalls range from the ages of 2 to 5 years old. Unique to the cases of reincarnation, the children present phobias, birthmarks, or birth defects in correspondence to the way they died.
Evidence of Afterlife and Experience of Death
Robert Birchard of The New York Academy of Sciences interviewed Sam Parnia MD, PhD of New York University Langone Medical Center about his research on resuscitation science. Dr. Parnia explained the phrase experience of death more accurately describes what his patients experience, since they actually died and were brought back to life. In his book, What Happens When We Die?: A Groundbreaking Study Into the Nature of Life and Death, Dr. Parnia presents a collection of patients' accounts of their experiences of death.
Stories of Life Reviews From Different Perspective
Dr. Parnia tells Robert Birchard that his patients underwent the life review many NDEs have reported; however, the patients relived the experiences from the perspective of the person they may have emotionally or physically hurt. In another interview with Morgan Freeman, Dr Parnia states he believes human consciousness continues after the physical death of the body.
At 35:20, Dr. Parnia speaks about his research into life after death:
Quote of Scientist Wernher von Braun About the Afterlife
In the book, The Third Book of Words to Live By, Wernher von Braun is quoted as supporting the idea that God is real and so is the afterlife. This quote is also cited by Thomas Pynchon in his book, Gravity's Rainbow, "Nature does not know extinction; all it knows is engineer transformation. Everything science has taught me, and continues to teach me, strengthens my belief in the continuity of our spiritual existence after death." While von Braun's belief doesn't prove the existence of life after death, it is exceptional that one of the most respected and leading scientific minds thought the concept was true and demonstrated in science.
Wernher von Bruan's Belief in God's Fundamental Principle
Wernher von Bruan's belief in God and the fundamental principle of the divine was expressed further in The Third Book of Words, stating if God does apply the fundamental principle of nature and "to the most minute and insignificant parts of His universe, doesn't it make sense to assume that He applies it also to the masterpiece of His creation - the human soul?" This may be considered little more than opinion expressed, but it's important since it came from a highly scientific mind and a man who applied scientific methods to all he did.
Proof of Life After Death and Exploring Scientific Evidence
The scientific study of life after death is a cutting edge new frontier that is being explored by scientists. Understanding what consciousness is may lead to greater scientific evidence of life after death.
