The Georgia Department of Revenue asks taxpayers to allow 90 working days after submission for tax returns to be reviewed and processed. If more time has passed since submitting your return, you can look up the status of your tax refund via the Georgia Tax Center website.

Locating Your Georgia State Refund

You can check on the status of your current year's tax refund via the Georgia Department of Revenue's website 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The information updated daily.

  1. Go to the Where's My Refund page on the department's website.
  2. Click the "Check the status of your refund" link.
  3. Enter your Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
  4. Enter the amount of refund you expect to receive. The number must exactly match the calculated refund amount from your filed tax return.
  5. Click the "Next" button to submit your inquiry and find out the status of your tax refund.

Interpreting the Results

Once submitted, the program will provide the refund's status: sent, in progress or unknown.

  • Sent: A "sent" refund means that it should be on the way to you. If your refund has "sent" status and you have not yet received it, contact the Taxpayer Division at 877-423-6711 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on any business day.
  • In progress: An "in progress" status means that the department has received your return, but has not yet completed its review of it or issued you a refund check.
  • Unknown: An "unknown" status means that your return has not been received. If you are certain that you have submitted it, you should contact the Taxpayer Division.

Claiming Your Refund

If you believe you are entitled to a refund, but have not yet received one, use the Department of Revenue's online system. If you are still unable to locate your refund or return online, contact the agency directly.
