No dessert is complete without a good ol' side of fluffy whipped cream. Whether you're having a warm and spicy apple crisp or a simple ice cream sundae, adding just a dollop of whipped cream can take your dessert to the next level. While store-bought may be the easier route, making it from scratch adds a magical touch to your fluffy whip. Here's a recipe that truly takes no effort and adds that touch of goodness to your sweets.

How to Make a Simple Whipped Cream

This whipped cream recipe only uses three simple ingredients. All you need is a handy egg beater or mixer to do the whipping. This makes about 2 cups.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Whip the cream and sugar using an egg beater until soft peaks begin to form.
  2. Add the vanilla, and whip until stiff peaks form.
Quick Tip

If you don't have an egg beater, you can use a mason jar with a tight lid. Place cream, sugar, and vanilla in a jar and shake the jar until the cream thickens.

Whipped Cream Variations

Are there really whipped cream variations? You bet! Using this simple recipe, you can whip up various flavors. To alter the flavor, replace the vanilla extract with:

  • Almond extract
  • Coconut extract
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Peppermint
  • Bourbon
  • Orange extract
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Instant coffee
  • Maple syrup
  • Honey

Try these different flavored whipped with your hot chocolate, sweet potato pie, a refreshing fruit salad, or our personal favorite — a huge serving on warm waffles.

Storage

What happens if you make too much whipped cream? If you store it in a bowl, you may discover the next day that the cream has separated, and there may be a layer of water in it. A more effective way to store the whipped cream is to place it in a colander over a bowl and cover it with plastic. Any water that comes out of the cream will drop into the bowl, and the cream will remain fluffy and water-free. It should keep for about three days in the fridge.

There's no need to sweat if your whipped cream loses a bit of its texture. All you have to do is re-whip it, and it'll be as good as fluff. It's best to also avoid freezing your whipped cream as it may turn grainy.

A Simply Sweet Topping

If you're looking for a dessert topping that will not only add a little magical touch to your sweet treats but will also turn them from ordinary to extrordinary, then whipped cream is your ultimate go-to. Prepare to delight everyone with this homemade touch of magic.
