Use Magic Eraser to Clean Your Shoes

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332442-850x567-whitesneakers-1317348003.jpg

I love a crisp pair of white sneakers as much as the next person... until they get scuffed up and dirty. Luckily, a magic eraser will make scuff marks & dirt disappear, so your kicks can have that "new shoe" look for much longer.

Try Magic Eraser in the Pool - but Not in the Filter

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332348-850x566-dirty-pool-160333509.jpg

You can use a magic eraser to spot clean a vinyl pool's walls or fiberglass steps; a clean pool is an inviting one! There's also a viral hack going around that says to stick a magic eraser in your pool's filter, and it will turn your pool from algae green to beautiful blue. But, it seems like that one's a myth, and not the best idea for safety purposes.

Use One to Clean Scuff Marks Off Walls

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332349-850x566-scuff-marks-off-walls-118434416.jpg

Common scuffs and marks from furniture will be no match for your magic eraser. But word to the wise: be careful using this on high-gloss paints. It can leave dull spots in the paint, so test this out on an inconspicuous area first and use it gently!

Clean Plastic Outdoor Furniture

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332371-850x566-plastic-outdoor-furniture-157637113.jpg

Let's talk about plastic outdoor furniture: it's lightweight, it's affordable, but it's not immune to the elements. If yours starts collecting dirt or mildew, put your magic eraser to the test. You'll be surprised at how great everything looks after a good scrubbing.

Clean Out Candle Jars to Reuse Them

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332373-850x566-clean-out-candle-jars-1310381800.jpg

Some candle jars can be repurposed for other uses, but making them look truly clean isn't easy! Once you've gotten the wax out of the jar, use your magic eraser to get rid of any cloudy film the wax leaves behind.

Get Rid of Hard Water Stains

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332374-850x566-hard-water-stains-166897453.jpg

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332376-850x566-sticky-rubber-1278319058.jpg

Does something in your home have a bad case of sticky rubber syndrome? When a rubber surface becomes sticky over time, like on a mouse, controller, or laptop, try using a magic eraser to gently wipe it down until it's no longer sticky.

Clean White Grout

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332377-850x566-clean-white-grout-1339598116.jpg

White grout lines are so hard to clean and actually feel like you made a difference. Don't despair - try a slightly wet magic eraser to brighten them up.

Blast Mildew on Vinyl Boat Seats

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332378-850x566-vinyl-boat-seats-178162096.jpg

Marine vinyl is built to last, but that doesn't mean it won't get dirty. Keep a magic eraser on board so you can scrub away mildew and dirt and keep your boat looking pristine.

Make Your Glass Stovetop Sparkle Again

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332379-850x566-glass-stovetop-1220503061.jpg

A magic eraser is safe on your glass stovetop, so try it out next time your stove is looking a little grimy. The stovetop is probably one of my least favorite things to clean, so this one's a lifesaver for me.

Remove Bugs From Your Windshield

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332380-850x566-clean-windshield-1401904959.jpg

Cleaning bugs off of a windshield isn't the most enjoyable pastime, and especially when they're really stuck on there. The magic eraser will get rid of the bug gunk - just don't use it on tinted glass.

Spot Clean Carpet Stains

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/328839-850x567-removing-paint-stain-from-carpet.jpg

Some people attest to using magic erasers on carpet stains. While it probably isn't a go-to for a huge red wine spill, it can work as a small spot cleaner. Test it out on an out-of-sight area of carpet before you try it on the stain.

Spruce Up Vinyl or Plastic Fences

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332381-850x566-vinyl-fence-157404994.jpg

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332383-850x566-turntable-stylus-614263218.jpg

Now this one is cool: if you have a record player, cut out a small, dry square of the magic eraser and place it under the stylus. Gently raise and lower the stylus onto the magic eraser to gradually remove debris. Your records are going to sound better than ever!

Clean Your Baseboards With a Magic Eraser

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332384-850x566-clean-your-baseboards-1308297291.jpg

Magic erasers work miracles on baseboard scuff marks and dirt. You barely have to apply any pressure to notice the difference. Finish by wiping with a dryer sheet to keep them clean longer.

Use a Magic Eraser as a Tub Cleaner

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332375-850x566-sticky-rubber-1155838561.jpg

A magic eraser will be your best friend when it comes to cleaning your tub. Use it to get rid of soap scum, hard water stains, purple shampoo stains (guilty as charged), and other mystery stains. I recommend testing this one out in a small area before using it on the whole tub.

Refresh Whitewall Tires

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332385-850x566-white-wall-tires-1396024522.jpg

Beautiful whitewall tires attract attention to your car, so it's even more important to keep them looking bright. Just like your white shoes, a magic eraser will keep these tires looking sharp and so clean.

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332386-850x566-toilet-bowl-rings-506146700.jpg

Remove Sticker & Price Tag Residue

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/264588-850x547-remove-sticker-residue.jpg

Sticker residue is one of my top 5 least favorite things to try to clean. I usually give up before I begin. If you don't have the right tools, it's tedious and frustrating. FYI: the right tools are a magic eraser and a bit of Goo Gone.

Get Rid of Deodorant Stains

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/264626-850x547-deodorant-stain-colored.jpg

You're getting ready for your day and just put on your favorite dark-colored shirt, only to realize there are deodorant stains all over it. We've all been there. But when it happened to me, I didn't know a few swipes with a magic eraser could have saved me from having to change. Moving forward, I'm definitely doing this.

Clean Your Oven Glass Door With a Magic Eraser

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/306714-850x561-clean-oven-glass.jpg

Cleaning the inside glass of your oven door can take a lot of elbow grease to get rid of the oven grease (seems counterintuitive, to me). But once you get through the thick layer of grime, the leftover spots underneath are even harder to remove. Don't sweat it - your magic eraser will finish the job.

Remove Nail Polish Scuffs

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332387-850x566-nail-polish-scuffs-102760349.jpg

If you wear nail polish, you might have accidentally swiped your nail on something and left behind a streak of nail polish, even days after it's dried. Oops! Depending on the surface, try wiping very gently with your magic eraser to remove the evidence.

Shine Up Your Silicone Phone Case (Inside & Out)

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332388-850x566-silicone-phone-case-1147545312.jpg

It's super important to remember to clean your phone case regularly. Especially on clear phone cases, a magic eraser works wonders to make your phone case look good as new again.

Try It on Clothing Stains

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332389-850x566-clothing-stains-1195588256.jpg

Even tough clothing stains can potentially be fixed using a magic eraser! Dab at the stain gently, and don't try it on very delicate pieces of clothing.

Use It Safely on Ceramic Flooring

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332390-850x566-ceramic-flooring-1302967951.jpg

Magic erasers aren't safe for many surfaces, but you can use yours to buff out the scuff marks on your ceramic floors or tiles.

Brighten Vinyl or Plastic Window Blinds

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332391-850x566-window-blinds-1457308372.jpg

Vinyl or plastic blinds aren't fun to clean, but it needs to be done, and your magic eraser can make it a little easier. Try this in the kitchen, where you'll likely need more than a light dusting.

Clean Plastic Fridge Handles

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332429-850x566-plastic-fridge-handles-222506521.jpg

My fridge has plastic handles, and as a high-touch area, they get dirty fast with food and finger prints. The magic eraser is my go-to for making them look nice and clean again!

Remove Stubborn Sharpie Marks

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332425-850x566-sharpie-marks-104304768.jpg

Sharpie mishaps happen to the best of us. A magic eraser will have your back and easily remove the permanent marker, but keep in mind the usual surfaces to be careful with (wood, high-gloss paint, stainless steel, etc) or test first.

Clean Your Fridge

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332424-850x566-clean-your-fridge-1346596233.jpg

Mr. Clean himself recommends using a magic eraser to clean stubborn food and scuff marks inside your fridge. I can attest that this method works well and is safe for the plastic interior.

Refresh Your Vinyl Siding

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332423-850x566-vinyl-siding-157475673.jpg

You're probably not going to use a magic eraser to clean the entire exterior of your house (I hope), but if it just needs some spot cleaning, this little sponge certainly does the trick to refresh your vinyl siding.

It Makes the Best Whiteboard Eraser

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332422-850x566-whiteboard-eraser-1180594030.jpg

You won't want to go back to using a felt whiteboard eraser after you've switched to a magic eraser. Especially for those markings that refuse to be erased and continue to haunt your whiteboard - give this a try.

Remove Small Rust Stains

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332421-850x566-small-rust-stains-589214449.jpg

If you've ever left a bobby pin or piece of jewelry on a counter and it got wet, it likely left behind a small but mighty rust stain. I've done this several times, and I was so happy when I learned that my magic eraser could instantly fix it.

Spot Clean Your Vinyl Floors

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/304839-850x566-remove-stains-vinyl-flooring-magic-eraser.jpg

Magic erasers and vinyl seem to be a match made in heaven. If you've got scuff marks on your vinyl floor, don't be afraid to use your eraser to clean it up.

Clean Outdoor Kids' Toys

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332418-850x566-outdoor-kids-toys-1267492659.jpg

Outdoor kids' toys are meant to be used and get dirty, but you'll still want to clean them once in a while. Hose them down to remove the bulk of the dirt, then scrub any lingering marks with your eraser to get them looking practically good as new.

Remove Hair Dye From the Sink

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332417-850x566-remove-hair-dye-1365530192.jpg

Coloring your hair at home is a messy process, and your bathroom sink and countertops can bear the brunt of it. When you go to clean it up, it might not come out right away, but don't panic! Just grab your magic eraser and scrub gently until the dye disappears.

Get Rid of Fingerprints on Doorways & Trim

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332416-850x566-fingerprints-on-doorways-1298272044.jpg

Doorways and trim are fingerprint collectors. That's okay though; a gentle wipe down with a magic eraser will take care of the problem, and you'll be shocked at how much cleaner your space instantly feels.

Erase Nicotine Stains on Walls

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332415-850x566-nicotine-stains-on-walls-1257024315.jpg

If you ever need to spot clean nicotine stains on walls or anything else, try a magic eraser. This won't be your best option for very severe cases, but it will work as a quick fix for small affected areas.

How to Use a Magic Eraser

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/334541-850x567-rinse-magic-eraser-1155838571.jpg

While they definitely seem like miracle workers, there's more science and less magic in a magic eraser (aka a melamine sponge). Melamine is a resin that cures into a foam to make the eraser, and it works almost like a micro-sandpaper. Which is why it works so well on so many things - and why you probably don't want to use it on others.

To use a magic eraser effectively:

  1. Put on some gloves to protect your hands.
  2. Rinse the eraser and wring it out. Never use it dry - water activates their magic and makes them more effective.
  3. If you're worried about a surface, test it in a hidden spot before going to town with the sponge.
  4. Pre-clean the surface by wiping it down.
  5. Start with a light wipe. Sometimes that's all it takes.
  6. For more stubborn spots, get in there and scrub with short buffing motions.
  7. The magic eraser will leave some small particles of itself behind. Wipe those away with a damp cloth.
  8. Rinse the eraser after you've used it, remove any damaged areas, dry, and store with your cleaning supplies.

A Magic Eraser Doesn't Work for Everything

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332428-850x566-magic-eraser-1191450444.jpg

As magic as it may seem, your eraser isn't the best tool for everything. It can damage some surfaces, and the sponge breaks down into small particles when you use it, so there are a few situations you'll need to find something else to use.

It's Not Good for Wood Finishes

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/304842-850x566-remove-rust-stains-from-vinyl-flooring.jpg

Magic eraser is basically like a micro sandpaper, so it can remove wood finish, causing you to have to do even more work. Protect your wood furniture and floors by cleaning them properly.

Don't Use It to Remove Spray Tan

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332430-850x566-spray-tan-224873665.jpg

Have you heard that people have tried removing self-tan blotchiness from their bodies using a magic eraser? Please, don't do this. The abrasive nature of the magic eraser can seriously irritate and damage your skin. Now, if you got self-tanner on your clothes, you can try using a magic eraser on that problem!

Don't Use in Aquariums

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332432-850x566-aquarium-1136918452.jpg

Some people used to swear by using magic erasers on acrylic aquariums to remove scum and algae, but the magic eraser breaks down as you use it and can leave behind small particles. That's not good for your fish, so you're better off using something designed specifically to clean aquariums.

It's a No-Go for Nonstick Pans

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/274855-850x566-clean-nonstick-pans.jpg

A magic eraser will do its job a little too well on your nonstick pots and pans and remove the nonstick finish. Not only will it damage your cookware, but you might get flecks of the finish (and the sponge) in your food. We would avoid using this on the inside of any cookware.

Don't Scratch Your Car's Exterior

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332433-850x566-cars-exterior-985196108.jpg

Because of its abrasive nature, you should not use the magic eraser on your car's exterior paint. It will scratch the paint and leave you with a bigger problem than a dirty car.

Don't Use on Stainless Steel

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332426-850x566-plastic-fridge-handles-1222173931.jpg

The magic eraser is good at getting rid of grime, but I'd skip it for your stainless steel surfaces. It can cause scratches and dull the shine, making appliances less shiny (and less pretty). Keep your stainless steel looking great with the right cleaning technique.

The Magic Eraser Is Not a Toothbrush

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332434-850x566-teeth-1298119689.jpg

For the same reason you shouldn't try to remove spray tan with a magic eraser, you should definitely not use it to try to whiten your teeth. It won't work, and it will damage your teeth's enamel. This makes me cringe just thinking about it. Let's all just make a pact not to use magic erasers on our bodies, okay?

Never Use It on Antiques

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332435-850x566-antiques-947294190.jpg

Don't risk using a magic eraser on an antique piece, especially something valuable or important to you personally. It could wear away paint, finish, or other details that make the antique unique.

A Magic Eraser Is an Amazing Tool

https://cf.ltkcdn.net/cleaning/images/slide/332436-850x566-magic-eraser-1396644632.jpg

Even if you can't use a magic eraser on everything, there are so many ways you can use it, and it'll make your life a lot easier. Keep a box in your home so you have them when you need them. I don't know about you, but I'm about to go get mine out and start cleaning!
