Frogs
The animals in this slideshow present just a few of the many species you might encounter in jungle habitats. Many brightly-colored frogs inhabit the jungle greenery. Species include numerous varieties of tree frogs, monkey frogs and poison dart frogs.
Boa Constrictors
Boa constrictors slither through the rainforests of South America and Central America.
Orangutans
In Indonesia and Malaysia, orangutans use the abundant trees in those countries' jungles to create their homes.
Gorillas
Gorillas, the largest of primate species, live in the jungles of central Africa.
Monkeys
In addition to large primates like orangutans and gorillas, there are also many smaller monkeys living in jungles, such as the capuchin monkey and the squirrel monkey.
Tigers
What kinds of animals live in a jungle? Several of the world's large cats live in jungles. Tiger habitats exist throughout southeast Asia.
Jaguars
Jaguars represent big cat species in the western hemisphere.
Toucans
Rainforest habitats offer a perfect setting for bird life. The toucan is a brightly-colored bird of western hemisphere jungles.
Parrots
Although they may have a reputation as a seafaring pirate companion, parrots are another bird species adding bright splashes of color to the jungle.
Insects
Insect life is everywhere in rainforests and other jungle areas. Some insects are similar to those you might see in everyday life, such as this army ant.
Spiders
The insects and even small animals of the jungle provide an abundant food source for the spiders living in these habitats.
Butterflies
From the Common Bluebottle of Asia to the Monarch of the western hemisphere, butterflies offer another burst of color in the jungle.

Panthers
Panthers are leopards or jaguars that have black fur coats and bright yellow eyes. They can be found sleeping on the safe perch of a tree branch during the day in preparation for their nocturnal hunting.
Birds of Paradise
Birds of paradise are known for their vivid, bright plumage and their wildly entertaining dances that involve strutting, hopping, stomping, and dramatic displays of feathers.
Capybaras
Capybaras are known as the world's largest rodents (or, to borrow a quote from The Princess Bride, "rodents of unusual size"). These creatures are adorable (like giant chinchillas), docile, and they love to swim in the rivers of tropical rainforests.
Piranhas
Piranhas swarm their prey with their powerful chompers. The most powerful ones (such as the black piranha) produce a bite force equivalent to 30 times their size.
Vampire Bats
Vampire bats are among the flying inhabitants of jungles, and they are the only bat that drinks blood as its primary food source. This creature often drinks up to a teaspoon of a person's or animal's blood when it feeds.
Sloth Bears
Jungle-dwelling, slow-moving sloth bears with their shaggy heads and lazy ways may have provided some of the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling's Baloo character in The Jungle Book.
